Fresh back from a holiday with her husband Ronnie Bailey, Debbie joins her pals Bernie Winter-Alahan, Mary Taylor, Fiz Dobbs, and Christina Boyd at Sally Metcalfe’s house for an al fresco soiree—complete with Sally’s snazzy new outdoor pizza oven, cocktails, and a hot tub!
The Shocking Memory Lapse 🍕
The sun-soaked party is in full swing until host Tim Metcalfe (Joe Duttine) walks over to serve up snacks. In a horrifying split second, Debbie’s dementia takes hold—and she completely forgets who Tim is!
Looking at Tim in terror, Debbie suddenly snaps, furiously accusing him of being a creepy stranger leering at the women in their swimsuits.
“Debbie doesn’t recognise Tim and accuses him of leering at the ladies,” reveals our Corrie insider. “Tim is shaken and Mary must gently explain to Debbie who he is. Poor Debbie is mortified.”
Swearing Off the Booze 🍹
Shaken to her core and deeply embarrassed by the outburst, a tearful Debbie apologizes profusely to a crushed Tim. Realizing her condition may be deteriorating faster than anticipated, she makes the immediate decision to pack in the alcohol for good in a desperate bid to keep her head clear.
Addressing her character’s ongoing journey earlier this year, actress Sue Devaney assured fans that despite the heartbreaking moments, Debbie’s sharp wit and love for life aren’t going anywhere just yet:
“You do see her deteriorating and that’s really upsetting, but you still see the Debbie that I love to play – the fun Debbie!” Sue shared. “It’s Debbie in all her glory. You see her with her friends… She’s doing all the things that she’s always wanted to do in life.”
