As if Vecna isn’t nightmarish enough, the showrunners of Stranger Things took more inspiration from the classic horror icon, Freddy Krueger, slapped it into Vecna’s characteristics, and jolted it up to a hundred. That’s right, Vecna will not only return, but will return so much stronger, so much badder, according to the Duffer brothers.
It is clear that the creators of the show wanted to make the season finale of Stranger Things bigger and grander than any finale they made throughout the whole series, and through the big bad evil guy, Vecna, is one of them. This would only mean that the fate of Hawkins is in the balance because the threat is real, dangerous, and growing. With Vecna in the way, the suspense is going to be killer.
The Creators on Vecna
The Duffer brothers expressed in an interview with Empire how much Vecna has changed, telling us that he was already dangerous because he could mess your mind up, jumping into your consciousness and causing serious damage there. But now, the showrunners say that they’ve really renewed Vecna, and that he can now do much more dangerous and violent things.

“We’ve been calling him Vecna 2.0, because he’s changed. He’s stronger and scarier than ever, with new real-world abilities. In Season 4, he was deadly because he could infiltrate your mind and manipulate you in that manner. Now he can kick your ass in truly violent ways, like Freddy on steroids.” – Matt Duffer.
And not only that, but we might even see the very human side of Vecna. According to an interview with Empire, we heard about Vecna’s inner thoughts from the actor Jamie Campbell Bower himself, the man who portrays Vecna. He expressed how much of a disturbed and traumatized person Vecna is, and that he only wants to change the world for the better.
“Vecna was a human. Vecna was a child. Vecna was a boy who felt like he could never fit in anywhere. He was quite a lonely figure to me. This very sad boy, who really only needed to be cared for. You’ll see more in Season 5, so I’m hesitant to say too much. But from the pain he’d suffered, he wanted to create a better world. Or what he envisaged as a better world…” – Jamie Campbell Bower.

Looks like we’re going to expect more than just drama, tension, and suspense in season five, because it seems like the creators, through Vecna, are going to add a hint of horror in the mix. Another great part of a perfect send-off to an iconic series, as we end the year by seeing the big bad evil guy, potentially turned upside down.
