Newly-released surveillance footage shows the gunman who fatally shot Charlie Kirk jumping off the roof and escaping in the moments after opening fire.
In the footage, the suspect could be seen running across the roof of the Lossee Center at Utah Valley University.
Once he reaches the edge, the suspect could then be seen climbing down and jumping onto the ground – leaving behind a palm print and a shoe print.
He then runs from the building and starts strolling with the crowd as he casually walks toward a street at the edge of campus, where police say he ducked into a wooded area, from where investigators have found a high-powered rifle.
The suspect then apparently fled into a residential neighborhood.
But Beau Mason, the head of Utah’s Department Public Safety, said officials ‘have no idea’ about the suspect’s identity or where he may be located.
Authorities are now asking the public to be on the lookout for the suspect, noting he had a distinctive t-shirt and a baseball cap with a triangle on it.
‘We cannot do our job without the public’s help right now,’ Utah Gov. Spencer Cox said at a news conference Thursday night, adding that authorities have already received over 7,000 tips and have conducted more than 200 interviews.
Authorities have ‘no idea’ about identity or location of shooter
Beau Mason, the head of Utah’s Department Public Safety, revealed Thursday night that officials still ‘have no idea’ about the identity and location of Charlie Kirk’s assassin.
‘We’re exploring leads for individuals that live close by,’ Mason told NBC News.
‘We literally have persons of interest, tips coming in on the tip line that are spanning far and wide.’
It had earlier been reported that officials had the name of the suspect, but were not releasing it to the public.

Student who was asking Charlie Kirk question about mass shootings when he was assassinated speaks out
The Utah Valley University student who was challenging Charlie Kirk on mass shootings at the very moment the conservative firebrand was gunned down says he is still reeling from the horror.
Hunter Kozak, a father of two, posted an emotional Instagram video admitting it has been ‘a rough 24 hours’ as he tries to process the assassination he witnessed.
‘It’s a tragedy,’ he said. ‘It’s hard to grapple with.’
Kozak — who has publicly sparred with Kirk’s views in past social media posts — explained why he went to the event to ask his question, and insisted the killing cannot be justified.
‘To those who think this is the answer, it’s not,’ he said firmly. ‘I’m on the record with how much I disagree with Charlie Kirk, but, man, dude, he is still a human being. Have we forgotten that?’
The student, visibly shaken, said his thoughts immediately turned to Kirk’s young family.
‘Charlie had two kids and a wife,’ Kozak said. ‘And not to make this about me, but I have two kids and a wife. If my one-year-old boy grew up without memories of his dad, like Charlie’s one-year-old will, it’s a tragedy.’
Kozak added that the ‘irony’ of his question — highlighting how peaceful the left had been compared to the right — was not lost on him.
‘That only makes sense if we stay peaceful,’ he said.

Official says it was ‘easy’ for killer to gain access to building
Utah Public Sfety Commissioner Beau Mason told NBC News it was ‘easy’ for the shooter to gain accss to the roof of a building and open fire from 175 yards away.
He noted that the building had open pathways and many of the doors were not locked.
‘He actually jumped from the roof,’ Mason said. ‘He was able to jump from the roof down onto a grassy area and out through a parking lot.’
Home surveillance footage collected in investigation
Federal authorities have collected a home surveillance camera that may have caught the person of interest fleeing in a neighbor’s backyard, Fox News reports.
Erwin Steele and his family own a home separated from Utah Valley University’s Campus Drive by a chain fence, across from an alleyway the shooter may have used while fleeing.
The street is near a wooded area where investigators recovered a rifle.
Steele now says he believes the suspect ran down the alleyway, ditched his weapon, bypassed the fence where it ended and ran through his family’s properties.
Investigators have a name of person of interest in ongoing manhunt
Investigators say they have identified the name of a person of interest in the assassination of Charlie Kirk.
Sources told CBS News that federal law enforcement know the name of a person they released pictures of earlier on Thursday, but did not reveal the name.
It comes as authorities say they have received over 200 tips in the ongoing manhunt and are exploring ‘several leads’ to track down the killer.
Earlier Thursday, the FBI released an image of a person of interest taken from the scene at UVU campus before the shooting.

Sniper expert says 200-yard shot that killed Charlie Kirk was ‘not spectacular’
Images were released released Thursday showing the sniper’s nest on top of the Losee Building on the UVU campus, around 200 yards away from where Kirk was speaking to students when he was shot dead.
The shooter is believed to have fired a precise shot into Kirk’s neck from the perch before jumping from the roof and escaping into a nearby neighborhood.
Despite the distance of the shot from the rooftop, former FBI counterterrorism agent Tim Clemente told CNN that it could have been pulled off by a gunman with only a moderate skill level.
‘It’s not a spectacular shot. I was actually training snipers (Wednesday) morning, up until the time this event happened, and they were taking shots out 500, 600 yards routinely,’ Clemente said.
‘So 200 yards isn’t a terrible distance. But you need to know how to aim and control your trigger pull.’
