Former This Morning star Phillip Schofield appeared remarkably unfazed on Wednesday morning after his £60,000 Jaguar was left badly damaged and had to be towed away following a collision with another vehicle.

Despite the dramatic scene, the 63-year-old broadcaster was seen smiling and joking with the recovery driver as his luxury car was loaded onto a breakdown truck. Witnesses noted Phillip looked relaxed, hands tucked casually into his pockets, as if the incident were little more than a minor inconvenience.

The high-end Jaguar had clearly taken a hit. One tyre was visibly flat, while a deep dent marked the far-side door — unmistakable signs of a heavy impact. Yet Phillip’s mood did not seem to dip, even as he stood by watching the aftermath.

A spokesperson later explained the circumstances of the crash, telling Metro that Phillip had been driving through an area of roadworks when another motorist suddenly pulled out from a car park and struck his vehicle.

“The other driver accepted full responsibility,” the representative said. “Phillip was very lucky. He suffered only minor injuries and received medical attention before going to hospital. Everything was handled calmly and without any issues. Accidents happen.”

The incident marks another moment of unwanted attention for Phillip, who has largely retreated from public life since stepping down from This Morning in 2023 following the revelation of a past affair with a much younger male colleague — a relationship he later described as “unwise, but not illegal.”

At the time of his departure from This Morning, it was reported that Phillip's wife Stephanie Lowe had been left 'devastated' by the revelation and angry that her husband since 1993 had lied to her (pictured together in 2019)

Since his departure from ITV, Phillip has kept an extremely low profile, aside from a brief return to television on Channel 5’s Cast Away, where he spent ten days isolated on an island near Madagascar with no food or water — a raw and controversial comeback that reignited public debate around his fall from grace.

His once-unbreakable friendship with former co-host Holly Willoughby also collapsed in the wake of the scandal. Holly publicly admitted she felt “hurt” by Phillip’s lies, ending a bond that once saw their families holiday together regularly.

The rift deepened further when Phillip accused Holly of betrayal, claiming she had supported ITV’s decision to distance itself from him amid concerns about reputational damage. He later went on to describe her as “one of the three worst people in showbiz” during Cast Away, a remark that shocked viewers and insiders alike.

Holly herself quit This Morning after 14 years following a terrifying kidnap threat and has since stepped back from the spotlight.

Phillip publicly came out as gay in February 2020, but the fallout from his admission that he had lied about the affair proved devastating. In a statement released via the Daily Mail in May 2023, he issued a lengthy apology, admitting he had misled ITV executives, colleagues, the media and, most painfully, his family.

“I am deeply sorry,” he said. “The relationship was consensual, on and off, and occurred once he was working on the show. It was not illegal — but it was a serious mistake.”

He also revealed the personal toll the scandal had taken, admitting he had experienced suicidal thoughts and crediting his daughters with saving his life.

“My girls saved me,” he said. “They wouldn’t leave my side. Without them, I wouldn’t be here today.”

At the time of his exit from ITV, reports suggested Phillip’s wife, Stephanie Lowe — his partner since 1993 — was heartbroken by the revelations. However, it later emerged that she chose not to file for divorce, with sources saying she feared he might “fall further” if she left, and that “love was still there” despite everything.

Their daughter Molly has since stepped in as Phillip’s media manager after leaving the talent agency that previously represented him.

Now, following the car crash, Phillip once again finds himself the subject of headlines — smiling through the chaos, outwardly calm, while his personal life remains one of the most complex and controversial stories British television has seen in years.
