Soap operas and passion are two things that have gone hand-in-hand pretty much since the beginning of the genre. But we don’t necessarily mean the passion on our screens, so much as the kind that fans bring to their favorite shows! And once you get into daytime couples and characters, feelings get even higher as viewers back their faves and take issue with the pairings they just, for whatever reason, can’t stand.
The Bold and the Beautiful is no exception to this, and neither is its fanbase. And hey, being disappointed in a show and wanting it to do better because you love it so much is one thing. But that can be taken too far — especially when you don’t want it to do better! When one fan on X called for Bold & Beautiful to be canceled and replaced in its timeslot by Beyond the Gates, Sean Kanan (Deacon) got real about what that means.

“You are certainly entitled to your opinion about the writing and direction of the show,” he responded. “However, when you call for the show to be cancelled, you are calling for hundreds of hard working people who consistently do their best to create the very best show possible to lose their jobs. These are people with families who depend upon them. I’m sure that wasn’t your intention but words matter.”
And it was definitely heartening to see the fans, in turn, stand up and cheer Kanan and The Bold and the Beautiful on. And look, it’s not like we don’t have occasional quibbles with the show, too. (Read our review here.)
But as Mark Porter put it in the replies, “If you don’t like something, don’t watch. But others might enjoy it.” Plus, as he adds, “Don’t understand wishing ill on others.” Same!
