Coronation Street legend Jane Danson has fiercely hit back at false reports claiming she’s leaving the ITV soap, calling the online rumours “absolute crap” and “pathetic.” After nearly three decades playing Leanne Battersby, Jane made it clear she’s not going anywhere — and she’s done staying silent about fake news.
Jane Fires Back at Fake Exit Stories
The 46-year-old actress took to social media after a string of misleading posts spread across gossip pages, falsely claiming she had been axed from the show and had written a “farewell letter.”
Sharing a screenshot of one of the posts, Jane fumed: “Stop making up stories and quoting cast members saying things that haven’t been said.”
She continued: “Apparently, I’ve been axed from the show and have written a letter to say how upset I am. First of all, if I have been ‘axed’, surely I would have been told? Had almost 30 years of people feeling the need to say what they want or making up stories, and I’ve never bitten back, but I’ve had enough of reading absolute crap. Just stop it — it’s pathetic.”
“I’ve Had Enough. Not Holding Back Anymore.”
Jane went on to call out the damage caused by social media rumours, reminding fans that false reports can take a real emotional toll.
“And please stop believing the 99 per cent nonsense these sites keep spinning,” she wrote. “It can be so damaging and it’s really unkind. Think before you type.”
When one fan praised her for speaking up, Jane replied candidly: “I’ve totally had enough. Not holding back anymore x.”
Support from the Corrie Family
Jane’s Coronation Street colleagues were quick to rally around her. Jack P. Shepherd (David Platt) joked, “I was dead online the other day, Jane,” referring to his own experience with fake reports. The show’s official page also stepped in, writing: “We keep trying to get the fake posts taken down.”
Her on-screen sister Georgia Taylor (Toyah Battersby) showed her support too, commenting, “Amen to that, sis.” Long-time Corrie writer Jonathan Harvey added: “Every single post I write COMPLETE B******* under. So unnecessary and hurtful.”

Nearly 30 Years of Leanne Battersby
Jane first joined Coronation Street in 1997 as part of the Battersby clan, instantly becoming one of Weatherfield’s most talked-about newcomers. After short breaks for other projects and maternity leave, she returned in 2007 and has remained a cornerstone of the show ever since.
Reflecting on her long career, Jane previously said: “We’ve all done life together. We’ve been through good times and bad, and it’s just lovely having that support. I never dreamed it would pan out for so long — it’s the most secure job in this industry.”
From Leanne’s heartbreaking baby loss and struggles with addiction to fiery affairs and family betrayals, Jane’s performances have cemented her as one of Corrie’s most powerful actors.
A Life Beyond the Cobbles
Away from Coronation Street, Jane enjoys a quieter life with her husband, actor Robert Beck, best known for roles in Emmerdale, Brookside, and Waterloo Road. The couple met at the 1999 British Soap Awards, married in 2005, and share two sons — Harry and Sam.
The Truth: Leanne Isn’t Going Anywhere
For Coronation Street fans wondering if this marks the end for Leanne Battersby — Jane’s made it clear herself. She’s staying put, and she’s had enough of the false headlines.
“I’ve been so grateful for it,” she once said of her time on the soap. “All the people you meet along the way just enrich your job — and it’s been a dream.”
