that Cameron Mathison, who portrays one of the most hated characters in soap opera history, Drew Cain, recently spoke with Soap Opera Digest about the fate of Drew Cain and his feelings about playing someone so universally disliked.

‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Drew Racked Up A Huge List Of Enemies

Drew has racked up quite a list of enemies in Port Charles. Someone took matters into their own hands in the September 2nd episode of GH.

Drew was shot twice in the back by a mysterious figure who was inside his home. The soap has now officially launched its “Who Shot Drew” whodunit storyline.

It appears that Drew is playing both the villain and the victim simultaneously. Mathison joined GH in the role of Drew Cain in 2021.

The former Navy SEAL has become quite sleazy and evil as his constant manipulation of the perpetually stupid Willow Tait (Katelyn MacMullen) resulted in him having sex with his nephew’s wife on the floor of his daughter’s playroom.

He also slept with her mother, Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros), while actively pursuing Willow. Drew’s actions became increasingly more despicable with each passing episode.

Drew even made Wiley Corinthos(Viron Weaver) believe his father, Michael Corinthos (Rory Gibson) didn’t want him anymore.

Fans were left to wonder what evil he would be responsible for next. He blackmailed Portia Robinson (Brook Kerr), issued restraining orders to Scout Quartermaine’s (Cosette Abiante) family, and disgraced Scout’s mother, the late Sam McCall(Kelly Monaco).

He also set up Stella Henry (Vernee Johnson) to be arrested for insurance fraud. The writers really went all out to portray what a low-life sleazebag Drew really is.

‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Mathison Knows The Viewers Hate His Character

Mathison offered his two cents on why he believes Drew has been depicted in such an unflattering light:

“Obviously, everybody hates me like crazy, but at the same time, they had to do that for the last four or five months.”

He continued, “They can’t just have people not like me. They have to have people want to kill me.” The Drew whodunit has been in the works for months.

In the same way that Days of Our Lives went all out to make all of Salem want to shoot EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerreigel), GH went to great lengths to make Drew as evil as possible.

Additionally, there was a similarity between EJ giving a speech and the portrait of his father, the late Stefano DiMera (Joe Mascolo), and Drew talking to the picture of himself and Willow. The thunder was an element of danger and mystery that GH added.

Mathison also admitted that playing this strong, villainous characterhas taken him out of his comfort zone. Yet, he finds the role is “weirdly therapeutic” for him.

The actor said,

“I go to work and get to be such a jerk. It’s almost like my little fantasy escape. I don’t know if it’s good for my psyche or not, but I’ve really leaned into it.”

‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Mathison Clarified That He Is Actually A Good Person In Real Life

He continued,

“Every time I read the script, I’m like, ‘Oh my God, Drew, are you kidding me?’ And then I’m like, ‘Yup! Let’s go!’ Let’s just dive in!”

Mathison explained,

“I like to really just let it fester and have it come out, and it’s been interesting and it’s been challenging. It’s also very exploratory for me. And also weirdly easy.”

Mathison clarified that he tries to be a really good person in his own life, and He’s gone through so much in such a short period of time.

He went through kidney cancer, a serious surgery, a divorce after a decades-long marriage, and sadly, his home also burned down in the California wildfires.

While we can all agree that we dislike Drew, Cameron Mathison is a genuinely good person in real life. He recently adopted a foster dog from a high-kill animal shelter and has become a doting foster dog parent.

Hunter is a handsome Doberman who bears a resemblance to his late Doberman, Red, who sadly passed away from cancer about a year and a half ago.
