Coronation Street Exit Twist Todd And Summer Plan Thailand Escape As George And Christina Face Ruin
Being accused of murder is enough to make anyone want to leave Coronation Street. Todd Grimshaw played by Gareth Pierce and Summer Spellman have every right to jet off to Thailand even if their escape leaves two beloved residents in serious trouble.
Let us be honest Todd and Summer have earned a break.
For the best part of a year every day of Todd life was a waking nightmare behind closed doors thanks to his abusive partner Theo Silverton played by James Cartwright. The monster subjected him to vicious physical attacks as well as gaslighting coercive control financial abuse and sexual assault.
His best friend Summer suffered directly because of Theo. Billy Mayhew Todd former boyfriend and Summer adoptive father died in the flaming wreckage of a minibus all because Theo was too jealous and petty to save his life. Summer grew suspicious and went to great lengths to prove Theo was responsible for Billy death which led to her life being threatened by the raging narcissist.
Then came the night Theo died. Todd was supposed to be flying to Thailand to visit his mum Eileen played by Sue Cleaver and brother Jason played by Ryan Thomas. Theo had other ideas and soon Todd found himself trapped in a deadly game of cat and mouse.
Todd was not the only one. Theo discovered Summer in the flat that fateful night and threatened her with that chilling line I guess Summer had to end some time.
In the end it was Theo who met his end as Summer escaped and later that night the vile bully had a violent confrontation that saw him fall from scaffolding to his death a death we now know Sarah Platt played by Tina O Brien was responsible for.
Why Todd And Summer Were Top Of Suspect List
As Theo constant victim Todd was right at the top of the suspect list. Theo ex wife Danielle Silverton played by Natalie Anderson certainly thought so and publicly accused Todd of killing him just to get his hands on the life insurance.
Being in the spotlight was an ordeal for Todd but for Summer it almost killed her.
To be fair the girl looked as guilty as sin. When friends and fellow suspects George Shuttleworth played by Tony Maudsley and Christina Boyd played by Amy Robbins found her diary filled with troubling passages fantasising about holding a gun to Theo head the evidence looked damning. So did the fact Summer had a chance to study abroad in America which looked a lot like fleeing justice.
When Summer was eventually arrested the one person who could back up her story and saw her fleeing Theo that night was Tyrone Dobbs played by Alan Halsall who stayed silent because he feared people would work out he was to blame for Carl Webster played by Jonathan Howard getting crushed by a car in the garage. Facing jail Summer began to spiral and even switched off her insulin pump which for a diabetic could be potentially fatal. She simply could not face prison even at the cost of her own life.
Thankfully Tyrone finally did the right thing and got Summer off the hook. And now that Sarah has been revealed as Theo killer it should only be a matter of time before Todd and Summer are in the clear for good.
Thailand Plans Throw George And Christina Into Chaos
So what better moment for Todd to finally take that delayed trip to Thailand with Summer in tow.
The only problem is Christina. She has been acting strangely around George recently and spending money like there is no tomorrow. It seems the closest thing Todd has to a mum and dad on the cobbles could use that cash far more than he could.
In upcoming scenes Todd and Summer announce their big plan to jet off to Thailand tomorrow to visit Eileen and Jason and the news could have a huge knock on effect for George and Christina.
At Number 11 Todd confides in Summer that Christina is still spending money she does not have and hiding it from George. Summer warns him it could all end in disaster.
Later Todd tells James played by Jason Callender that he intends to give away Theo life insurance money.
Meanwhile Christina tells a skint George she is sure their luck is about to change because Todd will be giving George a share of the life insurance. Has she jumped the gun.
In the Rovers Todd and Summer reveal they have booked flights to Thailand for tomorrow.
How will Christina and George take the news given their financial crisis. And when Todd learns the truth will he change his plans and hand over the money in a big heartfelt gesture.
