Davina McCall Shares Emotional Update as She’s Given the All Clear From Brain Tumour After Successful Surgery: ‘I’m So Lucky to Move On With My Life’

The 57-year-old TV presenter first shared back in November that she had been diagnosed with a colloid cyst — a rare and benign type of brain tumour. And now, in a touching video posted to Instagram on Saturday, Davina appeared alongside her partner Michael Douglas to share the results of her final MRI scan.

In the video, the Masked Singer star held up previously unseen scan images — one showing the cyst in her brain before the operation, and one showing it had completely vanished post-surgery. Accompanying the clip, Davina wrote a heartfelt caption:

“So here it is. Our final brain surgery update. Had the final MRI this week. @brain.surgeon.uk got everything out during surgery, it’s not coming back.

Thanks so so much to everyone at @onewelbeck and @clevelandclinic. To my mum and @mdlondon for taking such good care of me. To Sarah for being my BFF. To my amazing kids. To @brain.surgeon.uk for being the GOAT.

I am so so grateful particularly because I know a lot of people have inoperable tumours, and I know I’m lucky to be able to draw a line under this and move on with my life when so many people can’t.

And I’m just going to say this one more time: benign does not mean fine.”

In the sunlit video, Davina and Michael smiled with relief as they broke the good news. “We thought we’d post a final brain operation update,” Davina began, with Michael adding, “It’s good news!”

She went on to explain how nervous she had been ahead of her final scan, fearing that if any part of the tumour had been left behind, it could grow back and force her to endure the ordeal again. Michael added that it had been “a huge journey” for both of them.

“But it was clear!” Davina exclaimed joyfully.

She then thanked her surgeon, affectionately calling him a “legend,” as well as the many professionals, friends, fans, and family members who helped her through her recovery. “I want to say a massive thank you to everybody who looked after me so well,” she said, blowing a kiss to the camera.

Just last month, Davina broke down in tears during a live appearance on Comic Relief as she opened up about the emotional aftermath of her surgery. Fighting back tears, she spoke about what really matters in life after facing the fear and uncertainty of living with a brain tumour.

“Doctors found a brain tumour and after thinking about it for a while, I decided it would be best to have it removed,” she said during the broadcast. As her voice cracked, a member of the crew stepped in to check on her.

“This whole experience — weighing up all the risks and the positives of having it removed — made me really reflect on what life’s about,” Davina said. “I needed the brilliance of so many experts, and most of all, the love and support of my family, especially my Michael, to get me through.”

She added: “It made me realise that so many people go through difficult times without the support I had. I was really lucky.”

Davina first broke the news publicly in a video on Instagram last year, where she explained she’d had a routine health scan and was stunned to learn about the tumour. “I thought I was going to ace the scan, but it turned out I had a benign brain tumour, which is very rare — three in a million,” she said.

After seeing multiple neurosurgeons and weighing her options, Davina decided to have the 14mm cyst removed, explaining, “It’s quite big, and if it grows it could be bad.”

A colloid cyst is a slow-growing tumour typically found near the centre of the brain. Though benign, it contains gelatinous material and can cause serious complications if left untreated.

Thanks to early detection, a successful surgery, and the unwavering support of loved ones, Davina now looks forward to the future — tumour-free.
