Helen Flanagan Slams Ghosting Culture In Raw ADHD Confession
Former Coronation Street star Helen Flanagan has called out men who disappear after sex in a powerful and brutally honest social media post about life as a woman with ADHD.
Best known to soap fans as Rosie Webster who fronted some huge storylines during her time on the ITV cobbles Helen has in recent years become incredibly open about her health battles. This week she returned to Instagram with a carousel of personal photos each paired with a candid caption about how ADHD shapes her day to day life.
Why She Decided To Share Her ADHD Journey Online
ADHD or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects how the brain functions. People living with ADHD can experience patterns of inattention hyperactivity and impulsivity that impact work love and family life.
Helen also shone a light on a lesser known side effect called Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria known as RSD. People who live with RSD feel overwhelming emotional pain after perceived failure or rejection because the brain struggles to regulate those responses. It was something Helen said she recognises deeply in herself.
Intense Love Limerence And Why She Is A Lover Girl Not A Casual Girl
Opening up about romance alongside a throwback photo of herself with a teenage boyfriend Helen admitted her relationships have always been very intense and that she falls in love hard.
On the next slide showing a photo of herself in tears she continued last time I had proper feelings for someone it just felt a lot. Intense. My friends say I am like Cathy Earnshaw in Wuthering Heights lol. I get limerence and I also get terrible rejection sensitivity but I am learning to deal with that better.
She did not hold back on the next slide. When it comes to sex I am not a casual girl I am a lover girl wifey and I do get attached she wrote. I think guys that ghost girls after sleeping with them are big fat rats lol.
On another slide she added I go for someone that I find exciting. I go for a soul connection. Someone that makes me feel understood. I look for the male version of me.
Motherhood Psychosis And How Her Kids Helped Her Through Darkest Moments
Helen post went far beyond dating. She also spoke openly about motherhood her bond with her parents and her past mental health crises.
She explained her mental health was at its lowest when she was 21 and that she experienced OCD intrusive thoughts postnatal. She also spoke about living through psychosis and admitted she thought of the kids to get through.
Helen is mum to three children Matilda Delilah and Charlie who she shares with former partner Scott Sinclair.
The Upside Of ADHD And Outpouring Of Love From Corrie Family
It was not all heavy. Helen also celebrated the positives of ADHD including the fact she always has a funny story to tell.
The comments section quickly filled with love and solidarity. Fellow Corrie star Tina O Brien who plays Sarah Platt left a string of love heart and clapping emojis while Christine McGuiness added a love heart emoji.
