Billy Bob Thornton Drops Bombshell on Landman Season 2 — “This Changes Everything!”

Landman is coming back this fall, and star Billy Bob Thornton revealed why season 2 will have a different focus than what viewers saw in season 1. Landman debuted on Paramount+ in November 2024 as Taylor Sheridan’s newest drama series after creating such hits as Yellowstone, Mayor of Kingstown, and Tulsa King. Landman season 2 premieres on November 16.

Landman stars Thornton as the titular landman named Tommy Norris, who works for an oil company, but his life is turned upside down when a lawyer starts looking into an incident that caused a shocking death. The series also stars Ali Larter, Demi Moore, Jon Hamm, Jacob Lofland, Michelle Randolph, Paulina Chavez, Kayla Wallace, Mark Collie, and James Jordan.

Entertainment Weekly interviewed the cast to get some insight into what fans can expect from the new season. Thornton revealed that Landman season 2 will have a different focus, mainly because viewers know these characters now, so Sheridan can explore the relationships even more. Season 1 was forced to explain a lot of information, including about the oil company and the characters.

When season 2 starts, though, fans won’t have to worry about keeping up with a lot of exposition. As a result, Landman season 2 “really ramps up” the longer it unfolds, which will create a more intense viewing experience and a bit of a “slow burn.”

Now that the audience knows all the characters, Taylor was able to really dive into the relationships more. Last season, we had to explain what this business was all about and who the people are. This season, he was able to really focus in the first few episodes on the family dynamic and the business dynamic. But this one really ramps up as it goes on, and there’s more and more intensity.

What “Slow Burn” Means For Landman Season 2

When it comes to the biggest difference between Landman seasons 1 and 2, Thornton described a situation that a lot of TV shows, and even movie franchises, experience. It’s not unusual for a TV show to have to explain a lot of important information to the viewers for them to understand the world and characters they’re watching.

Landman doesn’t have to worry about that anymore. At this point, viewers know who these characters are and what their motivations are. Now Sheridan can dive deeper into the rich storylines, which will make for an even better viewing experience.

Of course, Landman isn’t lacking in dramatic storylines, especially after the season 1 finale featured Monty Miller’s death. Also, Tommy has more power than ever before, and he even promoted Cami Miller. Oscar nominee Sam Elliott is coming on board as a cast member as well.

Landman season 2 is expected to be a wild ride, and the “slow burn” that Thornton teased will likely create an explosion of drama and tension as they build toward the finale.
