Alan Carr has opened up about stepping back into the dating world — and according to insiders, his love life is taking a very different turn this time, with help from none other than Amanda Holden.

The 48-year-old comedian, who last year confirmed he had split from his 28-year-old toyboy partner Callum Heslop, says he’s ready to explore romance again, but in a far more grounded and intentional way. And he isn’t doing it alone. His long-time friend Amanda Holden has been quietly guiding and encouraging him through this new chapter.

Speaking to The Mirror, Alan confirmed:
“I’m dating… dipping my toe in. I won’t do apps — it has to be someone connected to a friend.”

Sources close to the star say that in recent months, Alan has grown unexpectedly close to a man “much more his type” — someone older, steady, thoughtful, and far calmer than the flashy younger men he has dated before. Those who know him say this new match has been refreshing for Alan after years of complicated relationships.
One insider explained:
“He’s not a toyboy. He’s quieter, a bit shy, very warm — and honestly really good for Alan. People have noticed Alan seems happier and more settled around him.”
The 48-year-old confirmed to MailOnline last year that he was officially single following his split from Callum Heslop — and while he has been focusing on work, friends say the spark of something new has slowly been growing in the background.
Much of this closeness reportedly developed while Alan was abroad filming property renovations with Amanda Holden for their joint TV project The Italian Job. Spending long periods together overseas allowed Alan and his new connection to deepen their bond away from the public eye.
And while Alan has always been cheeky about his “ideal type,” saying he loves “a big rugby lad — chunky everywhere,” friends say this new relationship is far more emotional than physical.
But the story gets even more intriguing.
📺 A Hint About TV — And a Twist Fans Didn’t Expect
Rumours circulating behind the scenes suggest Alan’s new love interest might be connected to the television industry — and that discussions have quietly taken place about the possibility of him appearing on The Celebrity Traitors 2.
One production insider teased:
“People would be shocked if they knew who he was. The production team already knows his name.”
Although nothing has been confirmed, fans of the hit BBC reality series are already buzzing with speculation.
Alan, who married Paul Drayton in 2018 with Adele officiating their ceremony, finalised their split in 2022 after 13 years together. He later revealed that Paul entered rehab as part of his recovery journey. Only recently did Alan stop wearing his wedding ring — a symbolic step toward embracing this new phase of life.
During a recent theatre appearance in London, he joked:
“I’m single again — bloody single — but maybe not for long.”
Alongside his romantic updates, Alan also confirmed that his autobiographical sitcom Changing Ends will return to ITV on April 16, and that he and Amanda have secured a new property to renovate for the next season of The Italian Job.
As for the identity of his new man — and whether he will become part of Britain’s newest TV buzz — viewers will have to wait and see. But according to those close to Alan, this connection feels different… and fans may soon get more than just rumours.
