Princess Charlotte and Prince William couldn’t hide their joy with the Lionesses triumphant Euros final victory over Spain and summed it up with three words.
Charlotte, who was joined by her father Prince William on the pitch, could be seen beaming with pride as Chloe Kelly and the rest of the team made history with back-to-back European Championship victories. The pair said in a statement on X: “What a game! @Lionesses, you are the champions of Europe and we couldn’t be prouder of the whole team. Enjoy this moment England. W & Charlotte.” The snap of them on the pitch was shared with the caption: “CHAMPIONS OF EUROPE!”
Also applauding the team on social media was King Charles, who said: “This brings you, your manager and all your support team my most heartfelt congratulations on winning the Euros 2025. For more years than I care to remember, England fans have sung that famous chant ‘football’s coming home’.
“As you return home with the trophy you won at Wembley three years ago, it is a source of great pride that, through sporting skill and awesome teamwork, the Lionesses have made those words ring true. For this, you have my whole family’s warmest appreciation and admiration.
“More than that, though, you have shown through your example over past weeks that there are no setbacks so tough that defeat cannot be transformed into victory, even as the final whistle looms. Well done, Lionesses. The next task is to bring home the World Cup in 2027 if you possibly can!”
Arsenal striker Alessia Russo pulled a goal back for England after the Spanish women’s team went one-nil up thanks to Mariona Caldentey. But it was Chloe Kelly who Princess Charlotte can thank after she powered the decisive penalty past keeper Cata Coll.
In a show of support ahead of the final, the Band of the Grenadier Guards performed Three Lions on the Buckingham Palace forecourt, while the Royal Family’s official X account posted: “Wishing the very best of luck to the @Lionesses in the Women’s Euro Final this evening.”
An image of Charlotte and William was posted on the Prince and Princess of Wales’s X account shortly before kick-off, with the caption: “Let’s go, Lionesses.”
They were among fans holding their heads in their hands when Mariona Caldentey put Spain 1-0 up in the 25th minute, as crowds in fanzones across England fell silent while watching the match.
Royal fans took to X to comment on Charlotte’s tell-all reactions, with one writing: “I can say Charlotte and William have no poker faces.”
Another tweeted: “Charlotte facial expressions are everything!” The official BBC 5 Live Sport account also commented on the royals’ reactions, saying: “Prince William and Princess Charlotte have been going through all the emotions in that first-half!”
And the 10-year-old was alongside her father Prince William and looked nervy during the shootout, joining plenty of other supporters with their heads in their hands during the tense finale. The Prince of Wales, who is patron of the Football Association (FA), applauded the national anthem as he stood next to Charlotte in the stadium.
Jubilant fans were spotted in the stadium and around the country as the Lionesses completed the historic feat of becoming back-to-back champions. A nervous atmosphere erupted at Boxpark Croydon as Russo’s header found the net, with England flags being waved and supporters hugging each other during the celebrations.
At the final whistle, fans of the Lionesses appeared confident as they started dancing and cheering into extra time. William and Charlotte were earlier pictured in Switzerland for the Euros final as the Royal Family led the nation in wishing good luck to England’s Lionesses.
