Coronation Street First Look: Sam Blakeman Returns to the Cobbles After Heartbreaking Schizophrenia Diagnosis 💔

Although the chaotic sports scheduling has pretty much calmed down, ITV still has a Sunday episode of Coronation Street airing tomorrow, and an exclusive first-look clip shows an emotional milestone for young Sam Blakeman (Jude Riordan).

Having spent time in hospital following his diagnosis with schizophrenia, Sam is finally coming home to Weatherfield—and he’s feeling understandably nervous about what lies ahead.

Facing the “New Normal” 🏥

Sitting down with Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) in a poignant scene, the teen candidly opens up about the terrifying reality of transitioning back into daily life.

“It was so easy to believe it’s a temporary thing, because hospitals are temporary,” Sam confides in Leanne. “But now I’m back here, I just have to get on with my life. I have to accept that it’s a thing that’s going to be with me forever.”

Leanne is quick to offer comfort, reminding him of the medical support available and reassuring him that he can still lead a fulfilling, normal life.

“Maybe, but I don’t really know what ‘normal’ means anymore,” Sam admits softly.

“We’ll figure it out,” Leanne promises. “All of us. Together.”

Bonding with Idris—But Dark Clouds Gather 🤝

Keen to embrace his reality, Sam turns the conversation to Leanne’s new love interest, Idris Nazir (Junade Khan), and asks when they can finally meet. While Leanne hesitated at first to avoid overwhelming him, Sam insists: “Sooner I figure out what the new normal is, the better.”

Upcoming episodes will see the pair share a surprisingly deep connection. During their first meeting, Sam opens up about his fears that people will now judge him or view him as “mentally unstable.” In response, Idris offers empathy by sharing his own childhood struggles with severe anxiety.

While the heart-to-heart leaves Sam feeling much more positive, an insider warns that Idris might not be as straightforward as he seems:

“Afterwards, Sam tells his dad Nick that he feels much better—but Idris has bigger fish to fry…”

With Idris hiding secret motives, will this new bond help Sam navigate his health battle, or is more trouble brewing for the Platts and Battersbys?
