🖤 Corrie Heartbreak: Iconic Nina Lucas Quits the Cobbles for a Terrifying New Role!
Coronation Street is about to lose one of its most vibrant souls. Mollie Gallagher, who has brilliantly portrayed the quirky and lovable Victorian Goth Nina Lucas since 2019, is officially saying goodbye to Weatherfield. But she isn’t just walking away—she’s trading the small-screen drama of the Cobbles for a psychological nightmare on stage!
Appearing on This Morning, Mollie got candid with hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shepherd about her emotional exit, admitting: “It was really sad.”
A Heartbreaking Exit Destroys ‘Nasha’ Hopes
Since her debut as Roy Cropper’s long-lost niece, Nina easily cemented herself as a legendary Corrie character. From her joyful alternative style to surviving the horrific, hate-fueled attack that tragically claimed the life of her boyfriend Seb Franklin, Nina has been at the center of the show’s most gripping storylines.
Sadly, her sudden departure officially crushes any hopes of a romantic reunion with her bestie and former flame, Asha Alahan. Sorry, “Nasha” shippers—this is the end of the road.
“I don’t like change. I struggle with change,” Mollie confessed, revealing she only had three days between wrapping Corrie and starting rehearsals. “But I believe it’s not the end of Nina’s story. I love Corrie so much. I really hope it’s not the end.”
From Goth Icon to Clarice Starling 🤫
Mollie’s next chapter is a million miles away from the Rovers Return. She has landed the iconic role of FBI agent Clarice Starling in a brand-new UK stage adaptation of the classic horror thriller, The Silence of the Lambs.
Taking over a role made famous by Hollywood royalty Jodie Foster is no small feat. To nail the character, the Mancunian actress had to completely ditch her Manchester accent for a deep, Southern American drawl.
“Something that really helped me is watching Jodie. She has this way of speaking using the side of her mouth—imagine you are constantly chewing something!” Mollie laughed. “Also, I usually speak from my head voice, but I need to bring it much lower. She’s training for the FBI, she wants to be taken seriously.”
A Soap Villain Super-Group
The highly anticipated play, directed by Nikolai Foster and adapted by Gina Gionfriddo, features a star-studded cast of soap legends. Playing the cannibalistic serial killer Hannibal Lecter is none other than EastEnders icon John Partridge (Christian Clarke).
“He is the perfect Hannibal. He’s lovely, but terrifying at the same time,” Mollie teased, revealing that Lecter is locked in a cage during their scenes, forcing them to rehearse using microphones.
Adding to the thriller dynamic, Clarice’s mentor Jack Crawford will be played by Oliver Farnworth—who Corrie fans will recognize as Emmerdale’s legendary serial killer, John Sugden.
The nationwide UK tour kicks off this August. Will Mollie break theater box offices the same way she broke our hearts on the Cobbles?
