🏫 Coronation Street Star Sam Aston Praises On-Screen Son Ahead of Joseph’s Dramatic Classroom Comeback
The Winter-Brown household is officially back in the spotlight next week on Coronation Street as young Joseph (Will Flanagan) makes a dramatic return to our screens. After a noticeable absence from recent storylines, Joseph is thrust straight into a brand-new financial crisis when his grandmother, Linda Hancock, drops the bombshell that she can no longer afford his hefty private school tuition.
Faced with the prospect of his son losing his place at the prestigious Oakhill School, a determined Chesney (Sam Aston) desperately scrambles to pull the funds together. However, securing the money is only half the battle. Having recently received a dismal school report for completely failing to do his homework, the pressure is now squarely on Joseph. With his tuition paid up, will the young lad finally knuckle down, apply himself, and achieve academic success—or is more disappointment on the horizon for his hard-working parents?
“Old Man Chesney” Mentors His Protegé
Speaking exclusively to Inside Soap, veteran actor Sam Aston couldn’t help but gush over his young co-star’s talent and their heartwarming bond behind the scenes.
“Will is absolutely top,” Sam beams. “He’s a really nice lad and he’s become one of my best little pals. Every now and again, we might go and play golf or something like that.”
The off-screen friendship has even sparked some hilarious dressing-room banter with co-star Dolly-Rose Campbell, who plays Chesney’s fiery wife, Gemma.
“Dolly-Rose takes the mick, actually, because I’m a bit of an old soul, and she calls me ‘Old man Chesney’. Now Will’s getting into golf, and he’s a little bit of an old soul, she’s like, ‘You’ve turned him into old man Chesney!'”
No Luck in Sight for Weatherfield’s Hardest-Hit Couple
While things are currently looking up for Joseph, Sam teased that smooth sailing never lasts long for Chesney and Gemma. The beloved couple have endured a non-stop barrage of financial hardships, quadruplet chaos, and health scares over the years, and it seems the soap gods aren’t done testing them just yet.
“It’s nice when they’re a happy family,” Sam muses. “They’ve been through a lot between the two of them. But it’s always fun to film some of the drama, so as long as Chesney’s there, I’m happy either way. We’ll have to see; obviously they don’t get lucky, do they, let’s be honest!”
