As the title of the documentary suggests, My Father, the BTK Killer, tells us the story of a family member and how their lives are affected by the discovery of their own father’s secret, being one of the most notorious serial killers in the world. In the film, we follow and discuss how Kerri Rawson, the daughter of the BTK Killer, and how her life changed after the police came knocking on her door on one fateful day.
Who is the BTK Killer?
Dennis Rader, the real name of the BTK Killer, is known and even named after his method of killing, meaning his name, BTK, stands for Bind, Torture, and Kill. His crimes began on January 15, 1974, with the murder of four people from the Otero family in Wichita, and lasted until January 19, 1991, killing over 10 people. But those 10 people are the only ones the authorities can confirm.
He was then later apprehended in 2005 and is held over at the El Dorado Correctional Facility in Knasas city, after being sentenced to 10 consecutive life terms, with a minimum of 175 years before being eligible for parole.

For those people who love a good documentary, My Father, the BTK Killer is for sure a good watch to add to your list. It may not focus solely on the BTK Killer himself, but it talks about the people we don’t often think about when we hear the tale of a serial killer, their families. It’s a fresh, new approach to a documentary that will get you hooked through the story of the killer’s family’s eyes.
