The Young and the Restless spoilers suggest that the land of Genoa City wouldn’t exactly feel like GC without the infamous Victor Newman. Actor Eric Braeden recently did an interview where he briefly talked about how a rival soap tried to snag him.
Real-life soap vets, Greg Rikaart (Days of Our Lives’ Leo Stark and Y&R’s ex-Kevin Fisher) and Rebecca Budig (Bold and the Beautiful’s Taylor Hayes) have teamed up to bring daytime drama fans a new online series called ‘Soapy’.
The show will interview top names in the business, so who was their very first guest? None other than The Moustache himself, Eric Braeden!
The actor has been playing the legendary Victor Newman since 1980 and is a staple in storylines for the CBS soap. When asked about why he’s stayed on the show for so long, Braeden noted, “Because I had a conversation with Bill Bell.”
Have Rival Soaps Tried To Poach Him?
Of course, Braeden is a major star in the land of soaps, which prompted Budig to ask if another show had ever tried to poach him.
At first, Braeden laughed it off, but then Budig pressed by asking, “Surely when you were doing contract negotiations someone came sniffing around.”
While Braeden did state there had been rumors surrounding this ‘here and there’, he revealed that he doesn’t talk about that stuff. With that said, he did say, “Once I took a trip to New York in the early years. They asked me to come to see someone in New York.”
Of course, fellow Y&Rer, Rikaart was quick to reply, “I’m glad you stayed.”
There were a ton of soaps that were filmed in NYC during those early years, from Ryan’s Hope to Another World, All My Children, Loving, As the World Turns, and One Life to Life; however, the Y&R is still going strong, so fans too, are happy that Braeden stayed put!
