Alex Jones opened up about a tragic loss leaving her family heartbroken. The One Show presenter, 49, resides in a Georgian home in Berkshire with her husband Charlie Thomson and the couple’s three children. The family have been busy renovating the property for the past two years after quitting London.

Alex and her family have been getting into gardening and sustainability with a gorgeous greenhouse, plant and a family of chickens that live in a fancy coop – named “Cluckingham Palace”.

But this week Alex shared some sad news that’s hit the family – their chickens, born in the family’s Berkshire home, have been killed.

In a candid video shared on Tuesday, she said: “We have got some sad news. Last week we lost all of our chickens to a fox or a badger maybe. So Matilda, Sonny and Sophie are no more. And they were born in the house.

We absolutely love them. It’s hit the children really hard. They had a lovely life but, uh, we forgot to close the door one time. And that one time it happened.”

She continued: “Charlie [my husband] woke startled at 5.30am and he knew there was something wrong. It’s just been horrific.

After a couple of days, we thought it might be nice to rescue some chickens because we miss having them in the garden. They will have a nice life here. We will get an automatic door, I think.”

“So if you know of any organisations that rescue hens please let me know. As we would love to do that,” Alex concluded.

Her 469,000 followers flocked to comment on the post as they offered their condolences.

One wrote: “So sorry. Same thing happened to me.” Another remarked: “So sorry Alex. Sad news for you and the family.” A third penned: “So sorry Al.”

The family are now hoping to adopt some chickens and are planning to get an automatic door with Alex asking for advice on adopting some birds.

Raising chickens is one of the things Alex and her family have been doing at their Berkshire home, which they moved to in 2024
