The entertainment world is in mourning as the heartbreaking news of Finnian Garbutt’s death has been announced. The 28-year-old actor, best known for his role as Ryan Power in the hit BBC series Hope Street, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer.
A Brave Fight Against Melanoma
Finnian’s journey began in 2021 when a small mole behind his ear was diagnosed as skin cancer, eventually identified as stage 3 melanoma. Despite undergoing surgery and chemotherapy, the disease aggressively spread to his liver, lungs, and bones. In 2025, he was given the devastating news that his illness was terminal.
In his final months, Finnian’s focus remained on his beloved wife, Louise, and their daughter, Saoirse, whom he described as his “best friend.” Throughout his struggle, he used his platform to raise awareness about the dangers of melanoma, urging people to seek medical help when something doesn’t feel right. He stressed that melanoma, though often underestimated, would ultimately be the cause of his death.
A Heartfelt Goodbye
Finnian’s family shared a deeply emotional statement on Instagram, confirming that he passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones. His family expressed immense gratitude to everyone who supported them, including those who donated to their GoFundMe page, which helped Finnian find some comfort during his final days.
“We will always love and miss you Finn,” the statement read. “You were the greatest husband, father, son, brother, and friend we could ever ask for.”
The family has requested privacy during this difficult time as they prepare for his funeral. “Thank you so much, and with all the love in the world,” they added.
Tributes Pour In
Fans and fellow actors have flooded social media with tributes to Finnian. Hope Street co-star Luke Delaney expressed his sorrow, saying, “I’ll raise a glass to you tonight, Finn. A remarkable man who’ll be deeply missed. Sending all my love to your family.”
Others shared similar sentiments, calling him an exceptional young man who brought joy to everyone around him. One fan wrote, “Finnian brought an incredible amount of joy to everyone, and I was so blessed to know such an incredible soul.”
An Inspiring Legacy
Though his life was tragically short, Finnian’s career was filled with accomplishments. In addition to his role on Hope Street, he starred in the feature film Housejackers, which premiered at the Belfast Film Festival. Finnian also achieved many personal milestones, including buying a home, marrying Louise, and becoming a father—all dreams he had set for himself.
Despite his illness, Finnian continued to live life with resilience and purpose, leaving behind a legacy of courage, love, and inspiration. He will forever be remembered not only for his talent but also for his unwavering spirit in the face of unimaginable adversity.
