“We’ve Waited a Lifetime for This” — Tess Daly’s Emotional Show of Support as Vernon Kay Begins a Powerful New Chapter After Strictly Exit

Tess Daly has been proudly showing her support for husband Vernon Kay as he marks a major return to television — just months after she stepped away from her long-running role on Strictly Come Dancing.Vernon Kay and Tess Daly

The Bolton-born presenter is back on screens with a brand-new BBC quiz show, Do You Know Your Place?, and Tess made it clear she would be cheering him on every step of the way.

Vernon previously revealed in November that he was “absolutely thrilled” to be fronting the new celebrity-led format for BBC Two, teaming up with former The Traitors star Paul Gorton. The show officially launched on Monday, February 23.Strictly's Tess Daly on tension and rows behind closed doors

Each episode sees Vernon quiz three  celebrity guests on their knowledge of the UK — with Paul acting as an intentionally “unreliable” tour guide. While Paul travels to different towns and cities across the country to set questions, the celebrities remain in the studio attempting to separate fact from fiction. Studio games add to the chaos, with daily winners collecting souvenirs sent back from Paul’s travels. Ahead of the premiere, Vernon excitedly shared the news with fans on Instagram. “Today is the start of my brand new quiz,” he wrote. “Do You Know Your Place? Tonight, 6.30pm on BBC Two. I’ve got Shane Todd, Remi Burgz and the fabulous Anneka Rice in the hot seats — and they did not disappoint.”

Alongside a behind-the-scenes video, he added: “We had an absolute blast making this one. So much fun… trust me — these are the OUTTAKES!”Vernon Kay shares 'real reason' he watches Strictly Come Dancing as Tess Daly prepares for return - Manchester Evening News

Tess was quick to react. She filled the comments with red heart emojis before resharing promotional clips to her own Instagram Story, writing: “I’ll be tuning in tonight 👀 @vernonkay.”

The public show of support comes during a reflective time for the couple. Tess recently bowed out of Strictly Come Dancing after years at the helm, prompting speculation about what the next chapter might look like for the TV power duo.

Away from the cameras, Tess and Vernon have also been making the most of family time. The pair recently travelled to New York to reunite with their eldest daughter Phoebe, who moved to the city earlier this year. Tess shared a series of snapshots from the trip, including a rare photo featuring their younger daughter Amber, who is usually kept out of the spotlight.

Posting online, Tess wrote: “I ❤️ NYC. Maximised every minute on a whirlwind half-term trip & fell in love with this magical city all over again,” as the family soaked up skyline views, city walks and sweet treats — even catching sight of snow as a storm approached.

With Tess stepping back from one era and Vernon stepping boldly into another, fans are calling it a powerful moment of balance, support and renewal — a reminder that sometimes, one door closing simply makes room for another to open.
