Landman Season 2 Adds a New Star From Creator Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone Universe
The upcoming season will continue to follow Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton) as he navigates the complexities of his new role as president of M-Tex Oil, a position he inherited after the death of Monty Miller (Jon Hamm). Tommy faces increasing pressure, including high-stakes drilling negotiations and entanglements with a drug cartel looking to infiltrate the oil business.
Season 2 will also delve deeper into Tommy’s relationship with attorney Rebecca Savage (Kayla Wallace), as well as explore the evolving roles of other key characters like Angela Norris (Ali Larter), Cooper Norris (Jacob Lofland), and Cami Miller (Demi Moore), who is expected to have a more prominent presence following her husband’s death.
A notable addition to the cast is veteran actor Sam Elliott, reuniting with Thornton after their collaboration in 1883. Elliott’s role in Landman has yet to be revealed, but his involvement is expected to add depth to the series’ story of the challenges of the West Texas oil industry.
Despite some criticism of its portrayal of female characters, Landman has garnered a significant viewership, becoming one of Paramount+’s most-watched premieres. With its mix of high-stakes drama and complex character arcs, Season 2 aims to further explore the complex world of oil, power, and politics.
It’s Official: Sam Elliott Joins The Cast Of Landman Season 2
Elliott’s addition brings even more star power to a lineup that already includes Thornton, Demi Moore, and newly announced cast members Andy Garcia, Ali Larter, and Michelle Randolph. While details about Elliott’s role are still under wraps, Thornton hinted that it will be a main role—and fans of both Yellowstone and 1883 are already buzzing.
“I go way back with [Sam] to the mid-80s,” Thornton told Deadline. “Yes, I’m old.”

From 1883 to Landman
Elliott is no stranger to the Sheridan universe. He starred as Shea Brennan in 1883, the critically acclaimed prequel to Yellowstone, alongside Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, and Isabel May. His gritty, heartfelt performance as a haunted wagon train leader won over fans and critics alike, so it’s no surprise Sheridan tapped him once again for a major role in Landman.

Created by Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace, Landman pulls back the curtain on the Texas oil boom and those trying to strike it rich—whether they’re roughnecks or billionaires. Thornton plays Tommy Norris, a hardened oil executive constantly facing challenges from every direction, including his own family and co-workers.
The series is based on Wallace’s podcast Boomtown, and despite some mixed reviews, Landman has proven to be another major hit for Sheridan and Paramount. It drew 14.6 million viewers in its first week and ranks as one of the platform’s biggest debuts to date.
