Robson Green has finally spoken out to clear the air about how his long-running relationship with partner Zoila Brozas truly began — and his version of events may surprise fans.
The 60-year-old actor, best known for playing DI Geordie Keating in ITV’s Grantchester and his earlier role in Soldier Soldier, has been in a relationship with TV production assistant and location photographer Zoila since 2016. The pair first crossed paths at a gym in Newcastle and later went on to work together on Robson’s documentary projects, including BBC Two’s Robson Green’s Weekend Escapes and Robson Green: Fishing Coast to Coast, where Zoila worked as a production assistant.
The story that once made headlines

When news of their romance first became public, Zoila’s former husband — vicar Geoffrey Short — spoke to The Mirror about his heartbreak, claiming she had left him for the actor.
“It’s very painful,” he said in 2016. “Part of me feels amazed that this has happened. It was just totally out of the blue.”

He alleged that after 16 years of marriage, Zoila had moved out of their family home just six weeks before relocating to Robson’s flat, following their meeting at the gym.
Robson finally sets the record straight
Now, in a new interview with The Times, Robson has firmly addressed the speculation.
“She never left him for me,” the actor insisted. “We were two single people who met in the gym. That’s the story.”
He added with trademark humour:
“Yes, she was married to a vicar, but we were two single people who met in the gym. She was fit. I was fit — and I wasn’t 60 then. She liked my clean and jerk. What can I say?”
Life together behind the scenes

The couple have since built a quiet life together in the northeast, away from the spotlight. In January 2023, Robson couldn’t hide his admiration for Zoila when speaking again to The Times.
“Zoila’s an amazing cook,” he said. “She looks incredible, she’s super-healthy and she’s always exercising — she’s really into yoga and she’s got the kindest heart you’ll ever come across.”
And while fans may wonder if wedding bells are in their future, Robson was quick to shut down the idea.
“No, I’ve done enough of that,” he admitted. “We’re very happy together.”
A look back at Robson’s past

Robson has been married twice before. His first marriage to Alison Ogilvie lasted eight years, followed by a 12-year marriage to model Vanya Seager. The former couple share a son, Taylor Seager-Green, born in 2000.
According to a 2020 report in The Times, Taylor went on to study classical civilisation at Exeter University — following his own path away from the cameras.
