Coronation Street fans are convinced newcomer Maggie Driscoll is hiding a secret child who’s already living on the cobbles.
Maggie (Pauline McLynn) recently arrived on the ITV soap, turning up on the famous street as Eva Price’s (Catherine Tyldesley) “mother-in-law from hell”.
Viewers will remember that Eva – who was last spotted in 2018 – made her return to Weatherfield this week after new spouse Ben Driscoll (Aaron McCusker) stunned her by purchasing the Rovers Return.
The pair didn’t waste any time getting comfortable in the pub and greeted all the locals with a massive launch celebration. Nevertheless, with Ben unable to cover the final payment for the establishment, he was forced to request financial assistance from his cherished mum Maggie.
Before long she appeared at the Rovers – leaving Eva completely stunned. Since her arrival, Maggie has made herself at home in Weatherfield whilst attempting to manage the pub alongside her equally strong-willed daughter-in-law Eva, reports the Daily Star.
Alongside Ben and Eva, Maggie’s entrance also brings her grandsons, Ollie (Raphael Akuwudike) and Will, plus Eva’s daughter, Susie, whom she had with the deceased Aidan Connor (Shayne Ward).
However now, in classic soap style, viewers can’t shake the feeling that a bombshell secret child revelation is on the horizon. On a Coronation Street Facebook fan page, one person commented: “How long until it comes out that Maggie has a secret kid on the street?”
Someone else chimed in and predicted Carla Connor (Alison King): “My money is on Carla! Her and Ben lookalike!” A third agreed: “Would love this!” Another wrote: “You might be onto something….”
Actress Pauline McLynn, who portrays Maggie, is likely most recognised for her portrayal of Mrs. Doyle in Channel 4’s sitcom Father Ted and Libby Croker in Channel 4’s comedy drama Shameless. She also appeared as Yvonne Cotton in BBC’s EastEnders.

Before her first episode was broadcast, Pauline discussed joining Coronation Street and revealed her reaction upon landing the role of Maggie. She confessed: “Bewildered! I really didn’t see this one coming down the line.
“I’m not one of those actors who has goals, or even ambition if I’m honest [laughs]. I kind of just stagger from one thing to the next, depending on who wants you. As a result, I didn’t have this on a bucket list of things….
“This was huge. It was like, ‘Who? What? Say that again? Coronation Street are interested?’ I did then go into the ins and outs of it and where this mad idea came from..”
